to wed or not to wed?: The early 20 something girl’s dilema
It’s been almost 2 weeks since the big move has taken place. Boxes are starting to dwindle, real furniture is replacing the blow up mattress and card table and things are finally beginning to settle down. More importantly, I’m starting to find out some interesting tidbits about my new roommates. Being completely respectful of choices that they make, some make me question what exactly they were thinking. More specifically Beth: Miss “i don’t have a boyfriend” going to a wedding expo in a castle in Long Island. What’s worse, is that she bought herself a fake engagement ring, lost it, bought another, and made up a fake fiance.
I know what you’re thinking… what the heck is this girl doing? But the best part is yet to come: she doesn’t want to get married. EVER. I’ve been pondering this for a while now and wonder, is she really not wanting to get married…. or setting herself up to avoid rejection?
Now granted, we’re in our early 20’s and totally nowhere near ready for marriage (which makes this predicament that much odder), but what makes a girl want to do this before her time, for no apparent reason? If she did want to get married some day, and just didn’t want us to think she was strange for going before she’s even in a monogamous relationship, she definitely failed.
I guess some girls are just not willing to admit that its something they may want. On the other hand, we’re going up in a society where the divorce rate is so high, it just seems like a waste of time, money, and emotions. In the end, I guess it’s just worth it, otherwise couples would never do it in the first place.
Regardless, it’s still odd to take an hour ride to a castle, to lie to a bunch of wedding happy women. In the end, I guess it’s her choice and hey, it certainly helps to keep me entertained!
