the friend and the ego.
Friends are tricky. But what do you do when you find that one of your good friends is not who they say they are. The closer you get to people, the more you realize their greatest assets, but also their greatest faults. It’s time to introduce you to one of my friends Beth. She’s a great girl, but the more I learn about her, the more I realize the selfish tendencies of her personality. As irritating as it is, I find myself comparing and competing with her, just to share my opinion. This is no way to strengthen a friendship. When she is not talking about herself, she is talking about her boyfriend…. or rather her “not boyfriend”? (apparently it’s tba)
How do friends continue to strenghten the bond, when ego gets in the way? In Beth’s case, I don’t know if she even notices that she’s doing it… So do I say something or simply let it go, until she ultimately gets over herself? As people grow older and friendship move forward, some continue and some start to fade, I guess it’s something that I can only learn with time.
